Gold Shovels Break Ground For SOTH on May 22

By Patric Hedlund

A ground breaking ceremony for Shelter on the Hill (SOTH) was announced for
Thursday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at 841 Lebec Road.

Board member Candace Husky-Brown said she was borrowing shovels and painting
them gold for the event.

“We don’t have building plans yet; we have our grading permits and are
waiting on estimates. We will just take one baby step at a time,” Husky-Brown
answered when asked about the schedule for building the animal shelter.
Fundraising began over 14 years ago.

“It will be a pre-fab building purchased from an Arizona company called Hound
Quarters-they did the new adoption kennels for Kern County Animal Center,”
Husky-Brown said in a telephone interview May 16.

Sociable pets on leash are welcome to the event and light refreshments will
be served. More information is available at the SOTH thrift store (245-1436).
