Historic Drought Raises Fire Danger in State

Nothing tells the tale quite as well as the straight data. Scott E. Stephens, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in the National Climatic Data Center, provided us this table, showing rainfall in Lebec from 1948 to the present. So far this calendar year we have had 4.05 inches of rain. Annual averages are nearly 13 inches. In 2002 the calendar year total was 3.78 inches-the lowest reading in almost 60 years. This year could possibly be the second lowest. -Reported by G. Meyer and P. Hedlund
