CASTAIC, CA (Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025 at 11:30 a.m.)— The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported a brush fire starting on Lake Hughes Road near Interstate 5 and Castaic Road in Castaic. At this time, LAFD had 20 fire engines and four strike teams en route to the fire.
The Mountain Enterprise spoke with the California Highway Patrol at 3:15 p.m today, January 22, 2025. They informed us that the Northbound Interstate 5 freeway is closed from the 126 in Castaic to the Grapevine. Southbound Interstate 5 freeway is closed from the Grapevine off-ramp through Castaic. All South-bound on-ramps are shut down between these locations. CHP is allowing people to go Northbound from Frazier Park via the Lebec exit, but not southbound.
The following additional roads are listed as closed per CalFire:
- Ridge Route Rd at Lake Hughes
- Ridge Route Rd at Templin Hwy
- Lake Hughes at Pine Cyn
- Dry Gulch at San Francisquito Cyn Rd
- I-5 NB at Parker Rd Off Ramp and I-5 NB at Lake Hughes Rd off ramp will be shut down.
- Northbound I-5 all lanes closed just north of State Route 126.
- I-5 Grapevine
The Hughes Fire is currently impacting Los Angeles and Ventura County and has burned through 5,054 acres according to CalFire
Gorman is under an evacuation warning. Frazier Park, Lebec, and Pine Mountain Club are not currently listed as under evacuation risk.
According to CalFire, in the areas listed below are under an evacuation order, with an “Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to LEAVE NOW. The area is lawfully closed to public access.”
