Supes vote to sue California over its energy policies

A historic order by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in June 2021 requires the state’s utility companies to obtain a sizeable chunk of their new electricity supplies — coming online between 2023 and 2026 — from clean, non-fossil resources, such as distributed energy resources (small generating and storage facilites connected to the grid), renewables and zero-emitting sources.

The CPUC news release said that 11,500 megawatts (nearly 25% of the state’s current supply) must be from these lower-impact sources “to ensure electricity reliability in the state and to meet clean energy goals.”
