Kern County’s new paramedic proposals would drop PMC response time mandates

Kern County’s Emergency Medical Services office released a revised policy on Wednesday, Oct. 24, that could alter the landscape for paramedic services in the county.

The proposed policy revision eliminates geographical limits on paramedic services provided by Kern County Fire Department (KCFD). The proposed revision goes before the Emergency Medical Care Advisory Board (EMCAB) on November 8.

If approved, Kern County Fire Department could begin the process of applying for authorization to establish firefighter paramedic programs throughout Kern County, according to Kern County Senior EMS Coordinator Jeff Fariss.
