FRAZIER PARK, CALIF. (Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at 5:39 p.m.)–Kern County Sheriff’s Department has released this update on the shooting near Fairview Elementary School in Bakersfield:

"On January 23rd, 2013 at about 2:28 pm Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the area of E. Fairview Rd. and Sparks Street, across the street from Fairview Elementary School.

Deputies responded and set up a perimeter in the area and around the school. The school was notified of the shooting and placed on lockdown for the safety and security of students and staff.

Deputies were able to determine that a shooting had occurred in the north alley of the 400 block of E. Fairview Rd. and suspects involved in the shooting may have run through Rexland Acres Park directly west of the school to the 300 block of Malibar Ave. where a second shooting occurred. As a precaution deputies searched the school campus for suspects and cleared the campus. The school lockdown was lifted after about one hour and students were released to their parents.

Deputies obtained information from witnesses that two suspects had possibly shot at each other during the incident. One of the suspects was described as a Hispanic male in his teens wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. The second suspect was described as a Hispanic male wearing a light grey sweatshirt, blue checkered shorts, and black shoes. Witnesses also provided descriptions of two vehicles seen fleeing the area shortly after the shooting, a white lifted Ford pickup with chrome rims and an older brown vehicle.

Deputies are still attempting to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information on this case they are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040. Anonymous text tips can be sent to TIP411 (847411).
