Lake of the Woods water company issues High Nitrate warning

LAKE OF THE WOODS (Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 1:15 p.m.)— Lake of the Woods Mutual Water Company has notified The Mountain Enterprise that high levels of nitrates have been detected in the company’s water. The company has been blending water from its wells 01, 02 and 07 since May of 2020 in order to remain in compliance with state’s maximum contaminant level (MCL) for nitrates. With the winter rains of 2022-2023, the nitrate levels began rising and, in early June, rose above the MCL. The following notice had to be issued today:

DO NOT GIVE THE WATER TO INFANTS UNDER SIX MONTHS OLD OR TO PREGNANT WOMEN.

DO NOT USE THE WATER TO MAKE INFANT FORMULA.

DO NOT BOIL THE WATER. THIS WOULD ONLY MAKE THE NITRATES MORE CONCENTRATED.
