As if auditioning for an episode of “Undercover Boss,” Kern Transit Manager Bob Neath does surprise tests of all the new services. He told a crowd at Pine Mountain Club’s roundtable with Kern County officials July 27 that he arrives unannounced.
Last week he took Kern Transit’s express shuttle from Bakersfield to Santa Clarita, connecting with Metrolink to go to downtown Los Angeles.

Beverly Boyles, 81, loved visiting her son in Orange County using the Kern – Metrolink shuttle, she said. It was wonderful not to have to navigate through traffic on the freeway. ‘Everything was timed perfectly,’ she told her mountain neighbors, ‘Use it or lose it!’ she laughed. The service is a grant-funded pilot project.
