Editor’s Note: This article, written by Kern County Fire Department’s Captain Andrew Freeborn, is about a KCFD paramedic program that had its beginnings in Pine Mountain Club where the first Kern County firefighter paramedics were stationed in 2009 after a years-long battle by local residents to have reasonable response times to life-threatening medical emergencies. Buttonwillow began KCFD paramedic services in 2019.
