Locked down and out of sight

Both Frazier Park School and El Tejon School held lockdown drills last week so law enforcement, teachers, staff and students could practice the district’s plan for keeping children safe in the case of an armed intruder entering the campus.

Principal Keri St. Jeor was happy with the first lockdown drill of the 2014-15 school year at Frazier Park School on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Students hid inside other special areas assigned by teachers during the lockdown drill.

Fort Tejon CHP Sergeant Zachary Emmons and Information Officer Adriaan Garcia said that in a real shooter situation multiple agencies would respond and operate under the Incident Command System (ICS). All law enforcement, fire department and other emergency supervisors are trained in ICS. The active shooter scenario requires that a unified command be established to coordinate between all agencies at the scene. For an incident at El Tejon School, CHP would likely be first on scene. For Frazier Park School, it would likely be the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
