I am very thankful to be a recipient of the Lori Smith Memorial Scholarship. It has helped me very much in pursuing my passion for dance.
I wanted to send everyone a little update on how I have used my scholarship so far.
I put a portion of it toward a trip to Wisconsin to attend the American College Dance Festival during the end of March and beginning of April.
It is through a student organization within my school known as Dance Oregon. Each dancer had to put down a deposit with their own money and we are fundraising the rest of the money for the trip.
I am very excited for this amazing opportunity and I don’t think I would have been able to attend without the aid of the scholarship.
I also auditioned and have been cast in a piece for the Spring Student Dance Concert, which will be in May, and I also am excited to say that I have just received a position as a dance instructor for Kipsters Gymnastics and Dance Fitness Center, where I will be teaching ballet, jazz, and jumps and turns technique classes to all ages.
I will try to send you another update soon!
Applications for the Lori Smith Memorial Performing Arts Scholarship will be available at The Mountain Enterprise office March 1.
Talented Mountain Community high school graduates, and those who will be graduating in 2012, are eligible to apply for assistance in their goal to gain training in the performing arts.
This is part of the February 17, 2012 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
