Lost hiker found on third day of search

The family of Northridge resident Balaji Keshava (78) is celebrating his successful rescue last Monday, Aug. 7 after he was lost in the Mt. Pinos area for three days.

Keshava has been hiking our local mountains lately with a Santa Clarita-based hiking group, according to his son, Hari Keshava. The group has enjoyed walking the Peak To Peak trail, a four-mile trek that stretches between Mt. Pinos and Cerro Noroeste to the west.

Last Saturday, August 5, the group started on its walk at about 8:30 a.m. from the trailhead at Cerro Noroeste Road, high above and west of Pine Mountain Club. The objective for the day’s hike was Sawmill Mountain, which is directly above Pine Mountain Club.
