In this rural Mountain Community—an hour away from a movie theater or urban entertainment—families were often seen down at the Frazier Mountain Park pond, fishing together, enjoying picnics and attending colorful events at the Frazier Park Library.

But then two terrible things happened.

First the town dropped into mourning and despair when the pond began drying up. Then with the next heartbeat—in a blow almost too hard to bear—administrative county politics took away Marie Smith, the beloved community librarian.
