Eugene Dee and Sara, his 12-year-old German Shephard, stop every day at a plaque in Frazier Mountain Park bearing the words Lisa M. Ward, 1969-1992. “Who was she?” And why did she die so young? Many members of our community have stepped up to try to help solve the mystery.

1992 news story—Air Force sergeants killed in crash

NORTON AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. — December 19, 1992
Two Southern California Air Force reservists and an active duty sergeant have been killed in the crash of a private plane in Hawaii. The three were killed Wednesday in the crash of their Cessna 172, but the accident was not made public until Friday after the families were notified.
Killed were SSgt. Lisa M. Ward, Redlands, and SSgt. John Stephen Bee, Perris, who were on active duty training at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. Both were members of the 445th Airlift Wing at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino.
Also killed was SSgt. Donald D. Dage II, who was stationed at Hickam. Dage was believed to have been the pilot.
The three were off duty at the time of the crash, but other details were not available. The crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
