National MIA / POW Day observed by Frazier Park’s VFW Post 9791

“The ones from the past stay with us,” said VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary Member Frances Durocher to explain the reason why Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9791 in Frazier Park hosted their second “POW / MIA Day” last week.

“This is a patriotic town. We are red white and blue,” DiAnn Dever agreed. “It wasn’t until last year we had the first ceremony for MIA/POWs. We will do it every year as long as I can breathe,” DiAnn, who calls herself “Grandma,” added. She said VFW Post 9791 has been in Frazier Park for 68 years and the Ladies Auxiliary has been here for 67 years.

September 18 is the official day of memory for those who have not yet come home from conflicts abroad. Post 9791 holds the ceremony on the Saturday closest to that date, this year on September 19.
