No shame, no blame, no questions — Safely Surrendered Baby Law saves newborn lives

California’s law to save the lives of newborns at risk of being abandoned in unsafe conditions encourages parents (or those authorized by the parents) to safely surrender an infant within 72 hours of birth, with no questions asked.

From January 2001 to September 30, 2014 there were 669 newborns surrendered, with 57 more before the end of 2014, the California Department of Social Services reports. Kern County says the Safe Surrender program has…(please see below to view full stories and photographs)
