The day after Thanksgiving, November 27, is “Black Friday.” It has become a romp through consumer insanity. So it is fitting that Jizo Peace Center in Pine Mountain has decided to turn the tables on this custom. They have dedicated the day to “giving hope to people in difficulty.”
The public is welcome to come to their location at 2012 Pioneer Way in the Pine Mountain community for a meditation at 12 noon. At 2 p.m. they share food.
At 4 p.m. they will screen the documentary, “Of Two Minds,” the 2012 film that won both the Audience Award and the Jury Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival and then went on a national tour.
Variety called the film “intelligent and compassionate.” NPR called it “provocative.”
It is a look into the roller coaster ride from mania to depression that is bipolar disorder. “Take your best day and your darkest moment, multiply by a million,” the producers write. The film won acclaim for its intimate, personal exploration of the lives of several people who tell about the challenge of “playing sane.”
“People with bipolar disorder are stigmatized by co-workers, employers and the health care industry, which is why it’s significant to hear from them so candidly. This is intimate storytelling,” The Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote.
“Of Two Minds” tells of the experience of over five million Americans who have bipolar disorder. It is produced by MadPix. The screening is free.
