“We’re still your children, please keep being our parents,” a volunteer group called Mountain Youth Can Change Communities (MyC3) told their own town this spring. Now they are the stars of a public service announcement (PSA) currently running on KGET-17, with a “premier” screening at the Maya Theater in Bakersfield. An interview with one of the students will air on Channel 17’s “To Your Health” on Saturday, June 30 at 4:30 p.m.
The PSA speaks directly to parents. It is a reminder that, just as they child-proofed their homes when the kids were toddlers, it is time to “teen-proof” their homes now that they are older.
Underage drinking occurs most often in a child’s own home or in that of a friend. This places parents in a key position to prevent access by locking up their liquor and prescription drugs.
The spot features ten El Tejon Unified School District students who have been working since August on projects to reduce underage drinking and drug abuse locally.
