Profile in obsession

David Deshler a.k.a. David Whitley appears to be a man who is driven to succeed.

The question is, what is he seeking to succeed at?

Now he has changed his name and has been re-credentialed through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing system as David Whitley (his deceased mother’s maiden name). Unfortunately, his modus operandi is the same.

He has lived a repetitive pattern of being hired by a school district, then fired for behavior with children that makes parents queasy, angry and vigilant.

The Mountain Enterprise has spent about four hours in total interviewing Mr. Deshler-Whitley. We do not know him personally. But agree with a local acquaintance that he seems to be a smart man. He also is self-assured and quick to explain his string of problems with school bureaucracies as being due to his exceptional and underappreciated talent as a teacher.

In 2008, he said female teachers are “jealous” of his success with children, and so “they tell lies about me.”

Our assessment is that the credentialing system in the state of California is overdue for an overhaul for deficiencies that may place our children at risk.
