In 2006-2007 a building boom was on. Power tools could be heard from morning to night. Real estate was hot. Young families were moving in as year-round residents. Local realtors estimated the population in this region at about 11,000. We were eager to see the next census. But then the recession hit. The census came in at 8,654 (up from 7,225 in year 2000).
