RV Propane Tank Explodes on Grapevine

UPDATE (Monday, July 19, 2010, 3:15 p.m.)—CHP reports that all southbound traffic lanes are open. An update on the hillside fire will be posted as soon as available.

UPDATE (Monday, July 19, 2010, 3 p.m.)—CHP has opened the the second from outside lane (#3) to traffic. The outer-most lane (#4) remains closed for crews to work.

LEBEC, California (Monday, July 19, 2010, 1:43 p.m.)—An RV caught fire in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 on the Grapevine. California Highway Patrol reports that one propane tank in the vehicle has exploded. All southbound lanes of traffic have been stopped at the lower section of the Grapevine due to the vehicle fire which is on the right hand shoulder. Fire is reported to have spread up the hillside. It is unknown whether there is a second propane tank so traffic has been stopped in all lanes. As of 1:43 p.m. the inner-most lanes (#1 and #2) have been reopened.
