An exciting opportunity was announced this week for 7th and 8th grade students to obtain a scholarship to attend a three-day conference August 6, 7, 8 at a summer camp here on the mountain for only $50. Sign-ups are being taken now.

The local youth group named MyC3—which means ‘Mountain Youth Can Change Communities’—sponsors the camp.

MyC3 has been busy with inspiring work. They have attended California Association of Student Councils leadership trainings since 2011 at University of California at Berkeley and UC Santa Barbara, produced television PSAs that play on TV, in movie theaters and numerous websites. They planned and ran two ‘Color the Mountain’ 5k fundraisers, won awards for innovative youth leadership projects, helped retail store owners work with the Drug Free Communities ‘Sticker’ project to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors, helped to organize the ‘Stop Meth Now’ community forums and the ‘Open It Up’ Town Hall conversation on drugs and kids.

2015 Leadership Conference

The 2015 Summer Leadership Conference energizes young teens to think about their futures and learn leadership skills that will help them throughout their lifetimes.

Peer leaders assist them to gain confidence in their own ability to communicate with others as individuals, to speak in front of groups and work in groups using team-building activities by the ‘Odyssey for Youth’ organization. They also learn conflict management and the importance of being kind to peers in order to help each other reach their full potential.

As young leaders develop their own talents, they learn to resist pressure to use drugs, alcohol or risky behavior to seek social acceptance.

Apply Today, Don’t Delay

Youths and families can call 661.245.4303 to register for the 10 scholarships for local youth.
The three day conference is held at Camp St. Nicholas here on the mountain. Food, three days of lodging, transportation to the conference, a T-shirt, sweatshirt and materials will all be provided for only $50.
