School District Slips Special Meeting In to Talk of School Closure, Budget Whacks

LEBEC / FRAZIER PARK, CA (June 22, 2012 at 11:48 a.m.)—With very little notice to the public to enable parents to plan to attend, El Tejon Unified School District Superintendent Katie Kleier has called a special meeting for Monday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. for the board of trustees to talk about "Goals & Objectives" for the district.

The bland "goals & objectives" phrase on the agenda (on page at right, under Community FYI) is likely to include talk about mothballing one of the district’s schools next year. It is also likely that there may be a challenge to the continued pattern of cutting teachers and teachers’ aides rather than administrative expenses as budgets shrink. These are two of the most urgent issues to the Mountain Communities and to its future economic and cultural wellbeing.

This is a public meeting—the public has a right to attend. The location is in Lebec, at the ETUSD district office conference room.

This is part of the June 15, 2012 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
