UPDATE– FRAZIER PARK and ELIZABETH LAKE (Saturday, March 1, 2014 )—It appears the second storm has passed. Weather spotter Linda Curtis of Frazier Park reports that she measured 3.8 inches of rain (at 5,000 feet elevation). There was continuous snow for a couple of hours in Pine Mountain, but roads are clear and the wet snow is melting quickly.

FRAZIER PARK and ELIZABETH LAKE (Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at 4 p.m.)—Snow is beginning in the higher elevations of the Mountain Communities, and cars are still being dug out from mud slides in the Western Antelope Valley area of Lake Hughes Road.

California Highway Patrol Fort Tejon Office says there are no travel restrictions at this time on the Grapevine or Mil Potrero Highway. Four wheel drive is advised from Lake of the Woods west through the Pine Mountain community. Roads are wet but clear in Frazier Park and Lebec.

Western Antelope Valley community reporter Jeff Zimmerman reports that 2.5 inches of rain has caused hillsides to start to slide onto Lake Hughes Road and along Elizabeth Lake Road. “Several massive mud and rock slides in the Power House burn area just south of the town of Lake Hughes in the 43551 block of Lake Hughes Road,” were reported and photographed by Zimmerman.

Pine Canyon Road near Three Points Road just south of Highway 138 also has minor debris flow that county road crews will need to clear.

Zimmerman said Los Angeles County Firefighters and Sheriff Search and Rescue personnel are helping to remove vehicles trapped in the Lake Hughes Road and Elizabeth Lake Road debris flow and are checking for anyone needing assistance. “Two vehicles and a horse trailer have been covered in mud and debris but the occupants were found to be just fine,” Zimmerman added.

Power is still on in Lake Hughes, Zimmerman said. An urban search and rescue team is staged for response at Fire Station 78 in Lake Hughes.
