Snowstorm May Delay Mountain Residents’ Vaccine Appointments

FRAZIER PARK, CA (Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 3:18 p.m.)—Seventy patients are scheduled to receive Moderna vaccine shots Wednesday, March 10, at Frazier Mountain Community Health Center in Lebec, according to Clinica Sierra Vista’s Tim Calahan. This includes some who are due for their second shots, 28 days after their first shots.

Meanwhile, a storm is forecasted to dump heavy snow on the Mountain Communities beginning Tuesday night and going through Thursday, with snow levels dropping as low as 2,500 feet. Calahan told The Mountain Enterprise Tuesday that only one patient has called so far to cancel their Wednesday appointment. However, icy roads, low temperatures and dangerous conditions may prevent many from making the drive to get their shots.

Calahan said that anyone who cannot make their appointment Wednesday will be put on the schedule for the clinic’s next vaccination day, March 17. He pointed out guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that “the second dose of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines may be administered up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose.”
