Students learn about the four food groups and helping others in need

By Michelle Penner, Frazier Park Elementary School

As part of a unit on the four food groups and nutrition, kindergarten students brought in canned goods as their share.

They were asked to name the food, the food group it belongs to and whether or not they like to eat that food.

All share items are being donated to our local food pantry. As part of Thanksgiving discussions, students recognized that we have a lot to be thankful for including enough food to eat.

They also understood that donating to others in need is a way to demonstrate the traits of citizenship and caring from our school’s Character Counts program.
