The Kern County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution on Tuesday, Jan. 10 to allow both California  Highway Patrol and the Kern County Roads Commissioner to close access to county maintained roads in this area when public safety is at risk.

Anarchy and gridlock were the experience of many Mountain Community residents over the winter holidays when Kern County Roads Department personnel estimated 168,000 snow play visitors descended on this area in just one day, January 1.(please see below to view full stories and photographs)

New Year’s Day was memorable for Mountain Community residents and for snow visitors. Neither enjoyed being trapped in gridlock for hours. This drone shot shows Cuddy Valley at 2 p.m. January 1, 2017.
There was very little snow, but an endless stream of vehicles.
