Some fuzzy photos popped into my phone this week. They were sent anonymously. I saw a bear I knew, that I’d met last year, about four months after it was born.

I recalled meeting its mother first—although I didn’t know she was a mother then. The large black bear was sitting on a 60-degree slope, 20 feet from my back door. She was calm and comfortable, a silent and relaxed presence the color of dark…(please see below to view full stories and photographs)
