  • These awards recognize the outstanding community people who help us to report the news each week. Good community journalism is a result of all those who use the newspaper to create a dialogue with their neighbors about important local issues.

The Mountain Enterprise Brings Home State Honors

The hometown team has brought back two more first place awards for excellence in journalism in a statewide competition. Under current management, The Mountain Enterprise has now won 11 state and national awards in the last four years. This time, one first place award was for providing the best online news coverage of all weekly newspapers in California, including those of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento.

That means the service our reporters provide to you at your www.MountainEnterprise.com website was selected by the California Newspaper Publishers’ Association over the online reporting of all other weekly papers in California, of any size.

The Mountain Communities is one of the smallest population centers in the state to be served by its own weekly newspaper, so this is an unexpected honor.

We also won a first place for best website in our category of weekly newspapers.

The Mountain Enterprise has been independent and locally owned for 45 years. Hometown Publishing owns the newspaper.

Gary Meyer is the publisher. Patric Hedlund is the managing editor. Pam Sturdevant is the office manager. All are dedicated to providing world-class journalism and service to this community.

Sturdevant has worked with the local paper for 10 years. Hedlund and Meyer were award-winning journalists with national and international projects before joining The Mountain Enterprise. They have worked with the paper for seven years.

Sara Woerter, who came to us as a high school intern then stayed to become newsroom assistant and a valued photographer as she continues her college education, is also an important member of the team. The Mountain Enterprise is grateful for the involvement of the many people of the Mountain Communities who help to report events for the safety and wellbeing of their neighbors—and who send photos and stories to help celebrate the quality of life here. We view this as an award to our community.

This is part of the May 06, 2011 online edition of The Mountain Enterprise.
