• How does Ham Radio save lives? The Pine Mountain Amateur Radio Club joins a National Field Day with a camp-out on Mt. Cerro Noroeste, open to the general public. Visit as they set up equipment and contact short-wave radio groups around North America. Drive Mil Potrero Hwy west of Pine Mtn. Village, left at Cerro Noroeste Rd. to the top. • The Mountain Community Health Fair is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frazier Park School. • Got Talent? Time is running out to enter the Fiesta Days Talent Show. Deadline to register is July 1, open to ages 9–21. Your act must not exceed four people and needs to be under five minutes. • Be a part of history at the Old Fashioned Fourth of July & Frontier Army Days at Fort Tejon on July 4, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Enjoy an 1850s style Independence Day celebration with family and friends and pie eating contests, tug of war, sack races and other fun games. The cannon salute is at 12 noon. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy under the oaks. Admission is $5/Adults; $3/Children (7-17); ages 6 and under are free. The fort is at 4201 Fort Tejon Road, Lebec, about 5 miles north on Interstate 5, off the Fort Tejon exit.

• Focus Central’s Week of Intensive Art Workshops is July 6–10 in Frazier Park. See July’s New Mountain Pioneer for details.
