Friday, Feb. 5

• Gorman Elementary School will hold an awards assembly at 8:45 a.m. at the school (49847 Gorman School Rd., Gorman).

• The Books to Film Club 2016 will meet at the Frazier Park Library, 4 p.m., to discuss ‘The Choice’ by Nicholas Sparks and ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ by Seth Grahame-Smith with Jane Austen. Films based on both books open in theaters today.

• Registration for Frazier Mountain Little League will be held at Caveman Cavey’s from 6–9 p.m. Bring a copy of child’s birth certificate and proof of residence. A $50 deposit is required.

Saturday, Feb. 6

• The Fort Tejon Historical Association’s Living History Program runs today and tomorrow, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. The public is invited to see what life was like for a soldier at Fort Tejon just prior to deployment to the Civil War.

• Expand your senses during a Blackout Night Hike at Wind Wolves Preserve, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Do some star gazing and learn about the creatures that come out after dark there. For reservations, contact 661.858.1115 / windwolvespreserve@twc-ca.org. North on I-5 for 19.4 miles, exit west on SR 166 for 14.6 miles (16019 Maricopa Highway), about a 40-minute drive.

• Artworks Community Gallery opens the ‘Nature Nurture: Frank Family Art Show’ today, featuring the works of Laura O. Frank, Sarah M. Frank, Michael P. Frank and Linnea Soledad. The wine reception is at 6 p.m. at the Pine Mountain Village gallery (16233 Pine Valley Lane). The show runs through March 6 with a concert reception on February 20.

Sunday, Feb 7

• A Birding Hike explores varied habitats at Wind Wolves Preserve, 8–11 a.m. All ages are welcome. For reservations call 661.858.1115/ windwolvespreserve@twc-ca.org.

• The Mountain Theater Alliance’s latest dinner theater production, ‘Be My Baby’ by Ken Ludwig, will be offered over the Valentine’s weekend in Pine Mountain Village (16311 Askin Dr., Basecamp). Shows are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12, Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14. House opens at 6 p.m., dinner is served at 7 p.m. and show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $75 per couple and include a bottle of wine, dinner, dessert and the show. • The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is accepting volunteer applications for the upcoming wildflower season (March–May). Two Saturday training sessions are required, Feb. 20 and 27. • A Free Photo Safari on the Tejon Ranch Conservancy for students ages 10–18 is set for Saturday, March 5, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Professional photographers Lori Murphy and Victoria Martin will take 20 lucky students on the tour guided by Naturalist Scot Pipkin. • The Third Annual Mountain Youth Photo Contest is still open for submissions. If you have not submitted a photo yet, what are you waiting for? Entries will be accepted now until March 19 in three age categories: 6–10, 11–14 and 15–18. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third entries in each category. Get your submission form and turn them in at the Frazier Park Library, The Mountain Enterprise, Artworks Gallery, Basecamp, the Pine Mountain Club front desk and www.MountainEnterprise.com. The Opening Party/Reception is Saturday, April 9, 5 p.m., at the Frazier Park Library.
