Friday, June 10

• AARP hosts a Smart Drivers Class, 1–5 p.m. in the Senior Room at the Frazier Mountain Park Community Center. The class is for those 50 or over. The fee is $15 for members; $20 for nonmembers. Call Maxine Jarvis (661.248.6899) to reserve a spot.

• Filmmaker John McDonald screens scenes from ‘Mule: Living on the Outside,’ at 7 p.m. hosted by the PMC Town Hall. It is a film about one man’s mission to save freedom and the backcountry trails of America’s West. Steve Cozzetto of Lebec also speaks about Backcountry Horsemen, at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The event is free, in the Condor room of the PMC clubhouse. See page 10.

Saturday, June 11

• Frazier Mountain Little League’s closing ceremonies at Tejon Fields, 9 a.m., will see teams lining up for awards. There will be a bounce house and BBQ. A camp-out and movie under the stars are also planned.

• Wine in the Pines offers a delightful afternoon of wine tasting from 1 to 4 p.m. in Pine Mountain Village. Also enjoy select artisan beers, gourmet food, music and an art show. Tickets are $55 in advance, $70 at the event. Visit wineinthepines.com or call 661.242.1996 for tickets. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and local nonprofits.

Sunday, June 12

• All Fiesta Days Beer Booth volunteers must complete a free class to serve beer at the event: the California Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD). Responsible beverage service is the subject. To make it easy to get there, a local class will be held at Caveman Cavey’s in the cave from noon to 4 p.m. One additional class is scheduled for July 10, at the same time and location.

Monday, June 13

• The Pronghorn Antelope of Tejon Ranch and the Western Antelope Valley is the focus of a free talk at 5 p.m. by Bill Lydecker of the Tejon Ranch Conservancy at the Frazier Park Library. Space is limited.

Wednesday, June 15

• This is the Fire Hazard Reduction deadline. Make sure your property has been cleared and is resistant to wildfires. Your neighbors will thank you. If your lot is not clear, you qualify for a $250 fine. Visit www.readyforwildfire.org and www.kerncountyfire.org.

• Summer vacation starts tomorrow! Today is the last day of school for both Gorman Elementary and Peak to Peak Mountain Charter Schools. Have a fun and healthy summer, and keep up your reading!

• Help an abused or neglected child by becoming a volunteer with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). • ‘Rhythm Nation’ is the 6th Annual In the Wings Studio of Dance extravaganza set for Friday, June 17, at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) at El Tejon School (and 4 p.m., on Saturday, June 18). • Your comments on the draft plan for up to 14,000 new homes at the northern base of the Grapevine must be submitted by 5 p.m. July 14. The public hearing is September 8 at 7 p.m. before the Kern Co. Planning Commission at the Supervisor’s chambers (1115 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield).

• I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick and November by David Mamet are the Summer Stage offerings by the Mountain Theater Alliance, 8 p.m. at the Gazebo in PMC. Performances for I Hate Hamlet, the tale of a successful soap opera actor whose decision to play Hamlet is complicated by the appearance of the ghost of John Barrymore, are June 30, July 1, 9, 14 and 16. November, a scathing political comedy that mirrors current events, will be presented July 2, 7, 8, 13 and 15. November contains adult language and situations. Tickets are $15, $12.50 for seniors and kids under 12. Call 661.242.6904.
