Friday, August 5

• It’s Family Day at the Friends of the Library Book Sale, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Kids will receive a free book.

• The 49th Annual Fiesta Days Celebration starts today, noon–10 p.m., in Frazier Mountain Park and runs through Sunday, Aug. 7. There will be food, craft and commercial vendors along with the Fiesta Days carnival, games, the Pet Show and terrific bands. • The Condor Group of the Sierra Club will host a potluck picnic at the top of Mt. Cerro Noroeste, 5:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share and a chair and head west to the group campground. Call Liz Buchroeder 661.242.0619 to arrange for ride sharing.

Saturday, August 6

• The Fiesta Days Parade at 10 a.m. kicks off the second day of the three-day Fiesta Days party. Marchers and floats start on Mt. Pinos Way from Falcon’s Nest parking lot to roll, trot, dance and march to Frazier Mountain Park. The VFW serves breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Community Center. Enjoy band after band, the carnival, stand up comedy and wild family games. The Houchin Community Mobile Blood Bank will be there from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. See the centerfold in the August issue of The New Mountain Pioneer for the full schedule of events.

• Register for Frazier Mountain Little League’s Fall Ball at Fiesta Days, August 5–7 and at Caveman Cavey’s on Friday, Aug. 12, 6–7:30 p.m. FMLL is for ages 6 and up. Fees are $45 for returning players, $60 for new players.

• Wow, it’s the half-price sale at the Friends of the Library Book Sale, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Hurry, this is the last day.

• All hands on deck! FMHS Soccer and Football teams need your help starting at 9 a.m. to assist with installation of new sod on Falcon Field. Call Coach Marc Sandall to confirm at 661.487.0350.

• Frontier Army Days is at Fort Tejon in Lebec, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Experience life as it was in the 1850s.

Sunday, Aug. 7

Monday, Aug. 8

• It is Welcome Back Week at In the Wings Studio of Dance today through Aug. 12 (3524 Mt. Pinos Way, FP., 661.245.5678). All regular classes are free during this trial period. See ad on page 5 for the class schedules.

• Calling all Frazier Mountain High School Cross Country athletes! Come to the Falcon’s Nest at 11 a.m. to meet your new cross country coach, Christy Zimmerman. Parents are welcome also. Please bring your running journal and your goals for the coming year.

Wednesday, Aug. 10

• A special free food distribution will be offered, 9–11:30 a.m., at Frazier Mountain Park. This is part of the Drought Emergency Food Assistance Program through Community Action Partnership of Kern Food Bank. There will be 600 boxes handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. All Mountain Communities residents are welcome. Bring ID or proof of residency.

• Dollar General invites the public to discuss concerns over the company’s application for an Off Sale Beer and Wine License, 6:30–8 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library. If you cannot attend the meeting or have questions call Michael Brewer at 951.698.6868, ext. 5.

Ongoing and Upcoming

• Dollar General answers your questions, Wednesday, August 10 at Frazier Park Library, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., about its beer and wine license application. The license will soon be voted on by the Board of Supervisors.

• A free Living Trust Seminar will be offered at the Frazier Park Library on Friday, Aug. 12, 10–11 a.m. Reserve a spot at www.learnlivingtrust.com or call 800.350.6376.

• Guest speaker Bill Arbanas will show his time-lapse nature photography and share tips at a free PMC Town Hall meeting Friday, Aug. 12, 7 p.m. It is open to all and kids are welcome. The event is in the PMC Clubhouse Condor room.

• Will the sheriff’s substation in Frazier Park be closed? Saturday, Aug. 13 is the tentative date for a meeting to discuss this issue, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at the Frazier Park Library. Supervisor David Couch said he will be there and that he hopes to bring along Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood to also answer the public’s questions.

• Screening of ‘The Coming of Asphalt,’ a new film from the Center of the World Festival about the history of the Mountain Communities will be held Sunday, Aug. 14, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Condor Room of the PMC Clubhouse; free and open to everyone. See the ad on page 7.
