• Speak Easy Theater’s ‘Wrap It Up’ holiday show is 7 p.m. at Artworks Gallery (661.858.3130). Tickets are $5. A final performance is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23 at Basecamp (661.242.2709).

Saturday, Dec. 17

• Honor Kern County veterans at the 8th Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony, 8:55 a.m. at the Bakersfield National Cemetery (30338 E. Bear Mtn. Blvd., Arvin; 661.867.2250). Associated Veterans of Kern Co. will provide an honor guard and a bugler will play taps during the 15 minute ceremony. Local Boy Scouts will hand out wreaths for family members to place on gravesites. Coffee and hot chocolate will be available. A shuttle will provide transportation from the parking lot.

• Bee Happy’s Holiday Boutique is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. At Stow-Away Storage (6403 Frazier Mtn. Park Rd., LOW) across from Midway Market. Great gifts include handmade treasures and more.

• A free Women’s Self Defense class is offered at Los Padres Kung Foo San Soo, 6–8 p.m. (7025 Cuddy Valley Rd., Ste. 1, LOW; 661.699.8350). No experience is necessary. Ladies under 18 need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

• A Writers Workshop for first through eighth graders is offered today, Wednesday, Dec. 21 and Thursday, Dec. 22, 1–3 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library. Have fun while honing your writing skills. High school students may attend for help with research projects.
