• Parade! Parade! The Lilac Festival kicks off today with its 35th Annual parade in Pine Mountain Village (along Mil Potrero Highway, from Freeman, West). The faire is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Skydivers start the parade at 11 a.m. sharp, so be there early! Fun, food, music, crafts and entertainment. Admission and parking are free. • The Pine Mountain Scrappers Quilt Guild’s big show every two years is one of the most unique attractions at the Lilac Festival. You’ll find them in Lampkin (just west of the village) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday only. Don’t miss this inspiring display of creativity and skill.

• The Vine Pregnancy Center Fundraiser is 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at Name Your Price Thrift Store in Frazier Park. Drop off donations the day of the sale.

• The Los Padres Estates Property Owners Association’s annual meeting is 1 p.m. at El Tejon School.

• The Friends of Frazier Mountain Park will meet, 6 p.m. at Caveman Cavey’s in the cave. They are planning the next Frazier Proud Community Clean Up, set for Saturday, July 15, in conjunction with the Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce and the Ridge Route Communities Museum.

• The Law Enforcement Leadership Academy (LELA) Graduation Ceremony is 6 p.m. in the Frazier Mountain High School cafetorium. A barbecue will be part of the festivities honoring these fine, young adults.

• “Murder Runs in the Family” is the Spring Drama Production, 7 p.m. at Frazier Mountain High School. Tickets are $8 or $5 for students with ID. Kids three and under are free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The play will reprise Friday, May 26 at the same time.

• The Ridge Route Run Car Show is Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Frazier Park. Food, music and local arts and crafts add to the fun. This year’s event includes a patriotic pet parade at noon. Registration is $40 and forms are available at http://www.ridgerouterun.com/Flyer_%26_Forms.html. All proceeds go to local charity.

• Fiesta Days vendor applications are now available at www.frazierfiestadays.org. The Early Bird discount applies until May 31. The 50th Annual Fiesta Days celebration is August 4–6, 2017. See The New Mountain Pioneer for a series of stories about 50 years of fun and good deeds.

• The 2017 Fiesta Days Queen contest applications are available now at Mountain Top Video (3620 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). Local youth ages 13–18 may enter. The winner receives a $100 scholarship; a $50 scholarship is for the runner up. Contact Tammie Goddard at 661.245.0315 for details.

• Are you and your property ready? June 1 is the deadline for Hazard Reduction Clearance. Clear your property or face a $500 fine.

• Celebrate the written word at the 2017 Festival of Writers Friday, June 2, 5–7 p.m. at the Frazier Park Library.
