• ‘The Vagina Monologues’ opens at 7 p.m. at Artworks Community Gallery (16233 Pine Valley Lane, PMC), as part of the 20th anniversary of the global ‘V-Day’ movement to end violence against women. Suggested donation is $10; 90% of proceeds will benefit the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center. Seating is limited, so please arrive early.

* The Independent PMC Clubhouse Task Force will share findings at 1 p.m. in the Condor Room. Results of independent investigations will be reported, questions will be answered about the soundness of the current clubhouse infrastructure, a soils test and research about a new pool. Chair Brent Bennett wants to ‘dispel rumors with facts.’ All are welcome.

• ‘A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer’ opens at 7 p.m. at Artworks Community Gallery (16233 Pine Valley Lane, PMC). Also part of the worldwide ‘V-Day’ movement (see Friday, Feb. 9 listing), suggested donation is $10, and seating is limited, so please arrive early.

* Celebrate Mardi Gras from 5 to 10 p.m. at the PMC clubhouse. Tickets are $18 for an all-you-can-eat buffet (including chicken & sausage gumbo, blackened fish, hush puppies and more), live music, and a masquerade contest with prizes.

• The Sadie Hawkins/Sweetheart dance at El Tejon Middle School is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. A DJ will be spinning tunes. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door, including a meal.

• ‘How to Put on Snow Chains’ instruction / demonstration is happening on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the PMC clubhouse parking lot. This is the first in a series of events designed especially for youth and teens, but the entire family, and all ages, are welcome!

• Why doesn’t your full cup always runneth over? Science Saturday is all about surface tension, at the Frazier Park Library, 10 a.m.

• FMHS Winter Formal is Friday, Feb. 23 at Camp AREV in Cuddy Valley from 7 to 11 p.m. ‘Winter Wonderland’ is the theme and tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple. That includes an Italian dinner and dessert.

• The Fifth Annual Mountain Youth Photo Contest welcomes budding photographers, 6 to 18 years of age, to submit their photos now through Friday, March 2. Hurry! Over $1000 in cash prizes will be given at the show and awards ceremony Saturday, March 24 at the Frazier Park Library. An art sale to benefit the youth will be at Artworks Gallery in Pine Mountain Village. See submission form on page 9.
