• In the Wings Studio of Dance holds their annual rummage sale today through Sunday, March 25, 8 a.m.–2 p.m. (3524 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). If you’re doing early spring cleaning, they welcome donations during business hours (3:30–7 p.m.) through today. See story on page 10 of the print edition.

• Delight in golden blooms at the Poppy Fields Forever art show, 12–4 p.m. at Artworks Community Gallery (16233 Pine Valley Lane, PMC). The gallery will be filled like an open field of poppies, California’s favorite gold nugget. (Artists’ reception will be March 31 at 5 p.m.)

Saturday, March 24, 2018

• March For Our Lives is occurring this morning in Washington D.C., L.A. and Santa Clarita. See details on page 13 of the print edition.

• Word is out: Saturday School is cool! It’s from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at FMHS, for all K-12 students in El Tejon Unified School District—and so fun it’s called ‘Festi-School.’ Lots of unique, interesting activities are on hand, and attendance helps tremendously to fund your children’s school.

• Get the inside scoop at ‘Coffee with a Cop’ from 9–11 a.m. at PMC’s Condor Lounge. If you have questions about anything, including reckless driving on our mountain roads, ‘snow bunny’ gridlock, how to become a volunteer or anything else, CHP is there to listen and inform.

• Thrill to a ‘Backcountry Safari’ at Wind Wolves Preserve from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Ride in a heated vehicle through Emigdio Canyon, up to reflection pond and lizard cave, then through Echo Canyon with Naturalist Travis Bibee. For more details call 661.858.1115.

• Detoxify your home: Toxic Roundup Household Hazardous Waste drop-off collection event is from 9 a.m to noon at Lebec Transfer Station (300 Landfill Road, Lebec), for safely disposing of automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, household cleaners, paint, pesticides and sharps.

• Clean the Mountain (hmm, do we notice a spring cleaning theme here?) from 12–1:30 p.m., starting at the ‘Y’ split at Cuddy Valley Road and Mil Potrero Highway. (Meet at the dumpster). This is a volunteer-led event to clear trash that has been left on and around our beautiful Mt. Pinos. Dress in layers and closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves; one grocery-sized bag (additional bags will be available); and a safety vest if you have one.

• The Mountain Youth Photo Contest awards ceremony takes place at 5 p.m. at the Frazier Park Branch library (3732 Park Drive, Frazier Park). Come see all 70 competitors’ photographs and join in celebrating our kids’ artistic accomplishments.

Monday, March 26, 2018

• Spring Break begins today for El Tejon Unified, Gorman School and Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School students. Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 3.

Tuesday, March 27, 2018

• Start spring out fit as a fiddle: Free health screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, anemia and body composition are from 2–4 p.m. at the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, FP / 661.245.4303).

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

• What to do with kids on vacay? Commune with nature while doing good at Volunteer Day, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wind Wolves Preserve (16019 Maricopa Hwy., Bakersfield). You will work alongside rangers to save endangered species, remove invasive plants, work in the native nursery, monitor species populations and more. All ages are welcome, a wonderful way to demonstrate community involvement with your kids.

Ongoing and Upcoming

• Lockwood Valley residents are invited to discuss the future of their region at the Ventura County General Plan meeting, 10 a.m.–noon, Saturday, March 31, at the Mount Pinos Ranger Station (34580 Lockwood Valley Rd., FP) to discuss future growth and policy alternatives. Climate change, housing, and economic development are important issues. What are yours?

• Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Community BBQ is Saturday, March 31, 11 a.m. sharp at Frazier Mountain Park. There will be crafts, animals and 88.3 Life-FM will broadcast it all, live. DJs Matt and Aaron will emcee, spin tunes and keep things lively. This year’s theme is ‘Love Your CommUNITY: Unite in love and all will be okay.’ To make this wonderful for the kids, the organizers request we all look for donation boxes at Dollar General, La Sierra restaurant, Frazier Park Market, Don’s Liquor Mart, Midway Market, Mountain View Market and Sue’s Tavern. Please help fill them with candy or small toys for goodie bags. If you would like to donate cash or gift cards, take those to Your T-Shirt Man. Deadline is March 27.

* Easter Champagne Brunch is Sunday, April 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in PMC’s Condor Room. Featuring omelette and carving stations, breakfast and lunch entrees and sides, salads, desserts, special kids’ selections—and of course champagne—price is $39.95; $15.95 for children 4–12; free for children 3 years and younger. Reservations are required, at 661.242.3788.

* PMCPOA’s annual Easter Egg Hunt rolls in on Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m. in PMC’s Lampkin Park (weather permitting) with much fun, prizes and (natch) the big guy himself—the Easter Bunny—will be there.

• [RESCHEDULED] Speak up about 60-70,000 more neighbors: Tejon Ranch’s Centennial Project goes before the L.A. County Planning Commission for a land-use hearing Wednesday, April 25 at 9 a.m. in Rm. 150 of the County Hall of Records (320 W. Temple St., L.A. 90012). Proposed 19,333 homes and businesses from I-5 along SR-138 would stretch over 19 sq. miles, from Gorman to Neenach. See letter on page 5 of the print edition.
