• El Tejon School’s Spooktacular Haunted Dance is 6–9 p.m. Peak to Peak and Gorman students are invited to join in the spooky fun. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door, and the price includes dinner.

* A ‘Snow Chain Demo’ is 9 a.m.–noon in the Pine Mountain clubhouse parking lot. Bring your chains and the car you want help placing them on, and, if possible, your car manual and chain instructions. Help will be provided to you.

• The chills are coming from inside the library! The library is haunted and full of spooky happenings all day: at 11 a.m. retired teacher and one-time Freedom Rider Fran O’Brien will tell scary stories in the children’s room, followed by a craft; the delightful movie Hocus Pocus (starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler) screens at 1 p.m., followed by more scary stories. Kids are encouraged to tell their scary tales, too!

• Trunk or Treat! The library hosts the candy fest 3–6 p.m. in the parking lot, after a spooky day inside. See page 13 of the print edition.

• Senior Stretching is 11–11:45 a.m. at Frazier Mountain Park Community Center every Monday and Thursday. Some stretches are done sitting in a chair, some standing, and you do only what you are able to do comfortably. The teacher is in her 90s, so clearly, stretching does a body good!

• Friends of the Library’s Used Book Sale begins today, 11 a.m.–6 p.m., for members and those who would like to become members. Come help set up and get first choice of great books (at the Frazier Park Library).

• The Frazier Park School Costume Parade is at 12:30 p.m.

• The Pine Mountain Village Trunk or Treat is from 4 p.m. until dark. Decorate your car and bring plenty of candy!

• Free parvo/distempter vaccines are available to Kern County residents every Wednesday, 5–6:30 p.m. at Kern County Animal Services (3951 Fruitvale Ave., Bakersfield). See story on page 19 of the print edition.

• Bargains on Books: Friends of the Library’s Used Book Sale is Thursday, Nov. 1, 11 a.m.–6 p.m., and is open to everyone. They also welcome help sorting and re-stocking—a great way to find great treasures! The deals go down at the Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Drive).
• Holiday Faire and Festival of Lights is coming Dec. 1, and you are needed! Be part of this year’s events at planning meetings Sundays, Nov. 11 and 18, 5 p.m. at Caveman Cavey’s Pizza. Bring the family and help make this beloved tradition a great success.
• How to prevent childhood lead poisoning is the topic of the free Parent Empowerment Series, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 10–11:30 a.m. at the FRC meeting room (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). After the guest speaker, time is set aside for parent relaxation and fun. More in next week’s TME.
