• Kids 7-12, join the Junior Rangers Club! This fun, free program continues today, 10 a.m. at the Frazier Park library (and is each Friday, 10-11 a.m. through the summer). The focus is on responsible recreation, outdoor safety, wildlife and environmental awareness.

• The weekend-long Moksha Festival begins 1 p.m. at Mountain Pointe Camp and Conference Center in Cuddy Valley (11134 Dorothy Lane, Frazier Park), with speakers, classes and concerts in a celebration of wellness, spiritual expansion and conscious living through yoga, Ayurveda, sacred music and other spiritual and living arts. • A fundraiser bike run to support Tom Roberts starts and ends at Cuddy Hall (335 Lakewood Drive, Frazier Park). Pre-registration (at JerseyRun.Eventbrite.com) fee is $25 for solo rider / $35 for rider and passenger; day-of fees are $30 and $40. Registrations starts at 8 a.m.; non-riders should arrive at 11 a.m. There will be raffle and 50/50 drawings, music and great food (meal ticket only is $10), all hosted by Tom’s bike club, Knights Cavalry.

• Third Annual Valley Fever Walk is 8 a.m.–noon at Apollo Park (4555 W. Ave. G, Lancaster, 93536). Register at 7:15 a.m. This is a free, pet- and child-friendly event that includes information on valley fever, ‘Talk to the Doc,’ vendors, kids’ activities, music, dance entertainment, a raffle and more.

• The Frazier Mountain Health Fair just could save your life, 9 a.m.–1 p.m., at Frazier Park School (3149 San Carlos Trail, Frazier Park). Come get free health checks, bone density and blood tests, stroke scan, mammograms (reserve in advance, 661.245.1952), children’s dental exams/x-rays (appointments at 661.245.4303), lots of kids’ activities and much more at this unique, amazing event. * PMC’s Concert on the Greens’ features Rebel Heart from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on the golf course at Pine Mountain Club. Directly afterward, Bandit plays in the Condor Lounge from 7–9 p.m.

• Independence Day Festivities in Taft begin at 5 p.m., with food vendors, a beer garden, live music from American Bred, bounce houses, crafts and a fireworks show at 9 p.m., at Rails to Trails Park (6th and Main). Admission is…free!

* PMC’s Old-Fashioned Family Picnic in the Park is 12–4 p.m., w/ live music, family games and more. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and your picnic or, if you’d like a basket made for you, call 661.242.3788 (by July 1, 2 p.m.) to pre-purchase one for $30 that feeds four.

• Enjoy fireworks without burning down the mountain with a ‘bigger, better’ Virtual Fireworks Show, 8:30 p.m. at the Frazier Park soccer field at Frazier Mountain Park. Featuring fireworks from all over the world projected high above, and 10,000 watts of explosive audio power, the freedom fun is free for all.

• Stop by the California Condor Viewing Booth Saturday, July 6 (and every first and third Saturday through September), 10 a.m.–3 p.m., to ‘take a break from driving, enjoy the view, get caught up on the wild condor population, and maybe even see a free-flying condor or two or a dozen.’ It is on Hudson Ranch Road between Pine Mountain Club and Highway 33—about 3.5 miles past Valle Vista Campground at the “Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge” sign. Look for the shade canopy.

• Mountain Communities artist Jody Valmassy’s Beautiful Treasures art gallery reception is Saturday, July 6, 5–9 p.m. at (16225 Askin Drive, Pine Mountain Village). There will be live music by Terri Loewy, appetizers, drinks, giveaways and…art!

• The ‘Hidden History Hour’ begins at Ridge Route Museum, Saturday, July 6, 7–8 p.m. on the new patio (3515 Park Drive, Frazier Park). Historian Bonnie Kane will share highlights of her upcoming volume of A View from the Ridge Route. Tonight, “Coming up the Grapevine” and “Dead on the Vine.”

• Embrace the dark on a Night Hike Saturday, July 6, 8:15–10:15 p.m. at Wind Wolves Preserve. The dark of the new moon is ideal for star gazing. Naturalists will tell of nocturnal animals and lead sensory awareness activities. Black lights may be provided to discover glow-in-the-dark critters. Ages 6 and up (no strollers). These are free, but book up fast! Reservations are at www.facebook.com/WindWolvesPreserve.

• Wild Flower Showoff is open one more week at Artworks Community Gallery, Friday–Sunday, 12–4 p.m. (16233 Pine Valley Lane, PMV) featuring wildflowers in various media. The show will be taken down Sunday, July 7.

• Make a note in your calendar now to consider attending the next meeting of South Kern Cemetery District, Tuesday, July 16, 4 p.m. at Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Drive), to be involved with discussing and asking questions about a possible memorial park right here in our own beautiful town.
