• Puzzles and mazes are problems to be solved just for fun. Different types of puzzles require different skills. Come explore mechanical puzzles like the Roman Keys and Rubik’s Cube. Solve some mazes. All this at Science Saturday with Dr. Brunk, 10 a.m. at the library.

•  SHORT WAVE RADIO CLASS BEGINS- 10:30-12:15 at the Frazier Park Library. This is the introductory class for an eight week course. The class is free, and will prepare you to take the licensing exam. Shortwave radio will be a primary survival tool in an earthquake emergency.

• Market Day is 11 a.m.–3 p.m. on the patio at Nature’s Home Organic Market (3011 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). It is open to all. Bring your homemade products, produce, crafts and services to sell at this free weekly event, or come to shop for organic produce and cool stuff! * ‘Guitar Fest’ returns to Pine Mountain Club’s Concert on the Greens 4:30–7 p.m., with the instrumental world music of Incendio and performances from PMC Guitar Society. The primary voice of Incendio is guitar, but you’ll love hearing mandolin, bouzouki, violin, Celtic harp, piano, bass, synthesizer and a rich menu of ethnic percussion instruments. Food and drinks are available for purchase. It is on the PMC golf course, so bring blankets, beach chairs and your bug repellent!

• Enjoy live music outdoors at Koehler’s Cottage Garden 6–9 p.m. (3701 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). Bandit is featured this week. The event is free, and includes free refreshments. See story starting on page 2 and ad on page 10 of the print edition.

This is open to all Mountain Community residents.

• Senior Sack provides healthy food staples from 10–11 a.m. at Frazier Mountain Park Community Center. Eligible seniors (with an annual income below $15,000) pay a one-time $2 registration fee, then may pick up sacks of fresh fruits and veggies twice a month (on the second and fourth Wednesday), with bread, boxed staples and canned food also offered. * Pine Mountain Club’s last Concert on the Greens of the summer features Runaway, Sunday, Sept. 1, 4:30–7 p.m. It is on the greens at the PMC golf course, so bring blankets and beach chairs. Food and drinks are available for purchase.

• A low-cost vaccine clinic for your pets is offered at Frazier Mountain Park Saturday, Sept. 7, 9 a.m.–noon. Kern County Animal Services is giving vaccinations for $10 and reduced-fee licenses.

• A Songwriting Festival Concert to benefit PMC’s Aging in Place committee is Saturday, Sept. 7, 6:30 p.m. at the PMC clubhouse. Performers include Michelle Shocked, Shelly Peiken, Kevin Quinn, Steve Hill, Dave Nachmanoff and more. Tickets are $20 in advance (at pmcsongfest.com/tickets or at the PMC office) or $30 at the door. All are welcome to this event. Proceeds benefit local elders.

• 20th Annual Kern County College Night is Monday, Sept. 9, 5–8 p.m. at Rabobank Convention Center. More than 100 colleges and universities are expected to have representatives there to help students and parents explore higher education options. The event is free.

• The curtain goes up on ‘Rock ‘N Roll Reunion’ Friday, Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m. in the Condor Room of the Pine Mountain Clubhouse, with 7:30 p.m. performances on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Friday, Sept. 20, and a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Sept. 15. See story on page 10. All are welcome.

• Calling all nerds: the 7th Annual Bakersfield Collector-Con is Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14–15 at the Rabobank Convention Center.

• Pianist Andrew Wong returns to offer a free concert Sunday, Sept. 15, 2 p.m. at the South Kern Christian Church (3224 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park)—between Falcon’s Nest and Ace Hardware. All are welcome, and those who know, know it is not to be missed!

• Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Public Review Open House is Thursday, Sept. 26, 5:30-7 p.m., Kern Ag Pavilion (3300 E. Belle Terrace, Bakersfield 93307). Representatives from over a dozen water agencies and districts will be available to discuss the Kern Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Plans during the 90-day review period. The plan covers SJ valley areas, not the Mountain Communities.
