• Movie Night at the Library for the kiddos will feature Inside Out 4–6 p.m., a free event. Great animation that kids love. Friday, Aug. 27, 6—8 p.m. is our all-ages movie night, featuring Guardians of the Galaxy (rated PG-13).

• Artflix at Artworks features Mona Lisa Smile, 6:30 p.m. at Artworks Community Gallery (16233 Pine Valley Lane, Pine Mountain Village). It tells the story of a post-World War II art professor who is trying to teach 1950s Wellesley girls to challenge the lives they are expected to lead. Explores the importance of women’s choice. Beverages and snacks for a $3.00 donation.

* The PMC Community Garage / Yard Sale is Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 28–29, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Out with the old, in with the new-to-you! Start early so you don’t get beat out by the early-bird buyers. Contact the PMC office for address list.

• A book launch party in the outdoor courtyard at Adventure Ink Bookstore is Sunday, Aug. 29, 2 p.m., for Deep in the Forest, Beyond the Clouds, a collection of true stories by members of the Mountain Communities. There will be music, entertainment, refreshments, readings and a book signing (16229 Pine Valley Lane, Pine Mountain Village).

• A unique outdoor theater event: Wee Three Kings at the new Lake of the Woods Amphitheater is Sunday, Sept. 5, 7 p.m., a one-night-only situation.

• On September 11, join the 21st Annual Ride/Walk to Remember through Cuddy Valley. It is a local tradition to honor those lost during the 9/11 attacks of 2001. Riders meet at 11 a.m. at the Piñon Pines mailboxes. Motorists through Cuddy Valley are welcome to wave or park and observe the procession. (Please don’t honk, it can startle the horses if you are too close.)

• The ‘Everything Exchange’ is Sunday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., at the Lampkin Park basketball courts in PMC (6410 Askin Dr.). This is an annual event in support of the entire Mountain Community, where you can take what you want (for free), and donate what you don’t need—ideally in advance, by calling Pam, 661.242.2035, or Tara, 661.242.6901. At this one, for everyone’s health and wellbeing, social distancing and masks are mandatory. ** Volunteers needed to make it happen—call Pam or Tara! **
