• Junior Rangers has its second meeting today, 3:30 p.m., at Frazier Park Library. Ages 7–12 are welcome to this free California State Parks program, where they’ll be winning prizes and learning exciting things about plants, animals and safety in our forest. Call 661.245.1267 for more information.

• Live music from Walt & Pam is featured at La Sierra Mexican restaurant, 6 p.m. (3500 Mt Pinos Way, Frazier Park). Come enjoy their mix of rock, country and blues for your entertainment and listening pleasure. Seating is limited.

Friday, Mar. 4, 2022

• Artworks Community Gallery opens an exhibit by Adele Thomas, 11 a.m.–4 p.m., with an artist’s reception Saturday, March 5, 5 p.m. (16233 Pine Valley Lane, #203, Pine Mountain Village). Thomas is a local lifestyle and travel photographer and freelance film director.

• Open Mic Night is 6 p.m., at La Sierra Mexican Restaurant (3500 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park), the first Friday of every month. Bring your song, poem, or even just tell a story. Sign-ups are at the bar.

Saturday, Mar. 5, 2022

• Learn to shoot a bow from horseback with a Confidence Building Clinic, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., at Hidden Creek Ranch (343 Lockwood Valley Road, Maricopa). Horses, helmets and equipment are provided. No experience necessary. The cost is $100 per person, for ages 8 and up. • A free walk-up covid-19 mobile vaccine clinic is available to serve you, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., at the Mountain Communities Family Resource Center (3801 Park Drive, FP). This clinic offers the Pfizer vaccine for anyone ages five and up, as well as boosters, rapid antigen testing and flu shots. Call MCFRC at 661.245.4303 for information. No appointment is necessary.

• The Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is now open. This waiting list has not been reopened since 2012. Voucher recipients are selected randomly each month. Residents of Kern County are given preference over residents from other communities. For eligibility, guidelines to apply for voucher assistance or to get more information, visit hcv.kernha.org.

• Frazier Mountain Little League Opening Day/Photo Day is March 12, 9 a.m. Join the fun with face painting, food, and a fastest pitch contest. (4265 Lebec Road, Lebec 93243)

• Basket Weaving class is returning at Ridge Route Communities Museum & Historical Society! This famous and beloved workshop is Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m.–12 p.m., conducted by Bonnie Kane (3515 Park Drive, Frazier Park). The cost is $20 per person and includes all necessary materials. • Friends of the Library Book Sale returns, March 15–19, at Frazier Park Library. This is a great opportunity to enrich your home library without breaking the bank, while also supporting the great programs sponsored by Friends of the Library. Call 661.245.1267 for more information.

• The deadline to respond to Kern Transit on the ‘Unmet Transit Needs’ here on the mountain is March 15, 5 p.m. This is a good chance to give feedback, good or bad. • A free covid-19 mobile vaccine clinic in Pine Mountain Club has been rescheduled to Friday March 18, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. due to icy road conditions last week. This event is open to the public and is held in the PMCPOA clubhouse (2524 Beechwood Way). Pfizer (available for ages five and up) and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available, as well as boosters. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and rapid antigen testing available on site. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. The second dose clinic returns Friday, April 8, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

• Come do you part to save lives: Houchin Blood Bank returns to the PMC Clubhouse parking lot Monday, March 21, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Blood donators will receive a pair of Houchin Blood Bank socks, while supplies last.

• Kern Fire Safe Council with FEMA: Community Wide Webinar on Resiliency is Tuesday, March 22, 5 p.m., with FEMA’s Intergovernmental and Congressional Affairs Specialist Christian Erikson and Vincent Martinez, Regional Preparedness Liaison. RSVP at www.kernfiresafe.org.
