Learn your BMI, blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, and how to monitor these numbers over the course of six weeks. 3 weeks are left. This is open to the public. • See through the eyes of local youth at Artworks Community Gallery, featuring the Frazier Mountain High School Student Art Show, open today through Sun., May 15, 11–4 p.m. (16233 Pine Valley Lane, PMC), with a reception to meet the artists Sat., May 21, 5–8:30 p.m. This installation is open to the public, and all proceeds from sales go directly to the students.

• The Ron Coleman Band performs live at La Sierra Mexican Restaurant, 6 p.m. (3500 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). Ron Coleman has played with the Everly Brothers, Albert Lee and other greats. His covers and original works are sure to bring lively entertainment to the mountain.

• Looking for a night out on the town? Bandit Unplugged performs live acoustic music at PMC’s Condor Lounge, 7–11 p.m. (2524 Beechwood Way, PMC). Grab a drink and relax while listing to the musings of more local talent from our community.

• Do you have a curious adventurer at home? Wind Wolves Preserve hosts the Science Sleuths, their new program for young adventurers, 10–12 a.m. (16019 Hwy 166, Bakersfield CA, 93311). Science Sleuths work as a team to solve clues with preserve naturalists. Registration is free. This event is for ages 10 and up. • The Lockwood Hillbillies at La Sierra Mexican Restaurant, in the lounge at 6 p.m. (3500 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). This duo will surprise you with outlaw country hits, folk and popular country songs.

• The Chess Club is looking for new and advanced players every Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Centered in Christ Church (3509 Mt. Pinos Way, FP, across the street from La Sierra Mexican restaurant). This club, originally formed by the late Bill Hopper at the library, teaches young people the skills of chess. The game helps players learn strategy and how to keep calm in challenging situations. • A Free Residential Hazardous Waste Collection event comes to Lebec, Saturday, May 28, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Lebec Transfer Station (300 Landfill Road, Lebec). Batteries, motor oil, paints, light bulbs, sharps, pool chemicals, cleaning products and other things too toxic for landfills can be disposed of during this event. • Mountain Memories invites all veterans and service members to join the lineup during the Ridge Route Run Car Show and Parade, Sat., May 28, 11 a.m. to honor those fallen and the five members of the VFW who passed away this year.
