• The Targa California Rally makes its way through the Mountain Communities today, 11 a.m. on their 13th annual road tour from Simi Valley to Pismo Beach. This invitation-only rally boasts over 100 unique, vintage, replica and tribute vehicles of varying makes and models. • Get to Know Your Numbers at Let’s Get Healthy, Kern County’s free health screening program, 3–4 p.m. at Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Drive, FP). Learn your BMI, blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, and how to monitor these numbers. This is open to the public. Just show up. • Kern County’s Water Conservation Day. Take short showers, use low-flow devices and drip irrigation in the morning when evaporation is low.

• Meet and Greet Marisa Wood (D-Bak.), Candidate for U. S. Congress (against Kevin McCarthy, R) 11 a.m. at Artist Studio (612 West End Drive, FP) for brunch and discussion on community needs. That will be followed by an afternoon reception, 2–4 p.m. at a private residence (2312 Glacier Drive, PMC).

• Meet the Artists of Frazier Mountain High School at Artworks Community Gallery, 5–8 p.m. (16233 Pine Valley Lane, PMC), during the artists’ reception for the Frazier Mountain High School Art Show. This installation is open to the public. All proceeds from sales go directly to the students.

• Bingo Night returns tonight, 6 p.m. at the VFW post 9791 (612 Canada Trail, FP). VFW pull tabs and refreshments will be offered for sale. Can’t make it? The next Bingo Night will be hosted Sat., May 28.

• The Chess Club is looking for new and advanced players every Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Centered in Christ Church (3509 Mt. Pinos Way, FP, across the street from La Sierra Mexican restaurant). This club, originally formed by the late Bill Hopper at the library, teaches young people the skills of chess. The game helps players learn strategy and how to keep calm in challenging situations. * Summertime is here! The PMC pool opens just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Friday, May 27. Visit Pinemountainclub.net or stop by the office to pick up a summer pool schedule.

• The Ridge Route Run Car Show, Street Fair and Memorial Parade on Saturday, May 28 will close Mt. Pinos Way from Los Padres Drive to Laguna Trail, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please plan accordingly to use alternate routes for traveling—and stop in for the fun. Remember, everyone is welcome to march in the Memorial Parade. Bring along a photo to carry of a veteran you wish to honor.

• A Free Residential Hazardous Waste Collection event comes to Lebec, Saturday, May 28, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Lebec Transfer Station (300 Landfill Road, Lebec). Batteries, motor oil, paints, light bulbs, sharps, pool chemicals, cleaning products and other things too toxic for landfills can be disposed of during this event. • Mountain Memories invites all veterans and service members to join the lineup during the Ridge Route Run Car Show and Parade, Saturday, May 28, 11:30 a.m. to honor those fallen and the five members of the VFW who passed away this year. • Concert on the Greens returns for the summer with a performance by the Jimi Nelson Band, Saturday, May 28, 4:30–7 p.m. on the grounds of the PMCPOA golf course. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Please do not bring outside food or alcohol.

• The Jizo Peace Center welcomes talented instrumentalist Eli Patterson, Sunday, May 29, 5–6:30 p.m. for his Sound Bath meditation. Eli works with his own handcrafted instruments to provide a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Donations of $25 are requested but no one will be turned away.
