• Kern County Public Works provides another free Hazardous Waste Collection Event, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Lebec Transfer Station (300 Landfill Road, Lebec). Drive up and drop off your residential hazardous waste free of charge. Commercial or business hazardous waste will not be accepted. Visit Kernpublicworks.com/hazardous-waste for more details.

• Meet your Kern Fire Safe Council and stay for two short films, 10–11 a.m. at Frazier Park Recreation Center (3801 Park Drive, FP) and again at 3–4 p.m. in Pine Mountain Club (2524 Beechwood Way). The two short films A High and Awful Price, and Kern Fire Safe Council School Program will be screened at these meetings.

• Lockwood Hillbillies take the stage performing outlaw country music at La Sierra Mexican Restaurant, 6 p.m. in the lounge (3500 Mt. Pinos Way, FP). All are invited.

• See Heap of Livin’, a reading theater play presented by Ridge Route Communities Museum and Historical Society, 7 p.m. at Ridge Route Communities Museum (3515 Park Drive, FP). This annual presentation is based on the book Heap of Livin’ by Dora McKenzie and local historian Bonnie Kane. Listen to tales and learn about the trials and tribulations strait from journals of residents from the late 1800s. This book is also available for purchase at the RRCM. Bring a friend!

• Frazier Park Library hosts their Teens’ Books vs. Movies club, 2 p.m. (3732 Park Drive, FP). Participants should read the novel Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, then watch the movie based on this national best seller with other club members at the library.

Ongoing and Upcoming

• Beat the heat at our local Kern County Cooling Center. The Frazier Park Recreation Building opens to the public when the temperatures of our area are forecasted above 93 degrees Fahrenheit. Masks and social distancing are required. This facility is closed when temperatures are predicted to be below 93 degrees.

• The Vine Pregnancy Center hosts a pancake breakfast fundraiser, Saturday, July 30, 8–11 a.m. at Cuddy Hall (335 Lakewood Place, LOW). The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children. All proceeds help support the Vine Pregnancy Center.

• Ridge Route Communities Museum’s free patio events continue, Saturday, July 30, 7 p.m. at Ridge Route Communities Museum (3515 Park Drive, FP). Tonight community members are invited out to learn about local earthquakes with Matthew Herman from Buena Vista Museum.

• A Garden Market with organic produce and crafts for sale is at the Pine Mountain Village Center gazebo, 12–4 p.m. (behind Pine Mountain General Store, 2513 Freeman Dr., FP) every second and fourth Sunday of the month.
