•The 5th Annual Festival of Books is a fun day for kids to hear stories, see favorite story characters, enjoy games, crafts, clowns and receive free books—all to spark the love of reading, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frazier Mountain Park Community Center (3801 Park Drive, FP). •The Death of Peter LeBeck Ghost Walk and Candlelight Tour at Ft. Tejon State Historic Park is 4–9:30 p.m. See the ghosts and hear of the haunting of Fort Tejon. Mulled cider and refreshments are served. Enjoy old-fashioned games. Tour is $10 for adults; $5 for children 12 and under (5 miles north of Frazier Park on I-5, at Fort Tejon exit in Lebec).

•The Halloween Fun Run folk invite you to run 5K or if you dare 10K to benefit FMHS sports. •Bring clean, gently used coats, hats, gloves and blankets to the Coat Drive; drop-off locations are State Farm Insurance (3015 Mt. Pinos Way, FP) or Pine Mountain Realty (16206 Pine Valley Lane, Pine Mtn.). Drop-off now through Tuesday, Nov. 11. Coats will be distributed on Saturday, Nov. 15.

•Annual Pumpkin Patch supports Frazier Park School’s kids. Beginning, Monday, Oct. 20, the Pumpkin Patch will be open Monday–Friday, 7:45 a.m.–8:10 a.m., 2–6 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 25, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. All pumpkins (any size) are $4, or get 3 pumpkins (any size) for $10.

•A total of $100,000 is available in Kern County Board of Trade’s Tourism Grant funds. Submit your non-profit’s proposal to attract tourist dollars. Apply at www.visitkern.com/grants/ before October 24, 5 p.m.

•Go for a Sunday Stroll with the Condor Group of the Sierra Club, 8-9:30 a.m., starting at the PMC parking lot. Free, no reservations.

•Sports night is every Tuesday from 5–7 p.m. at Lampkin Field, Pine Mountain Village—every week, weather permitting. Sports include basketball, volleyball and soccer. Invite your friends. Sponsored by Peak to Peak Mountain Charter and Principal Juan Ricoy.
