• Here Comes Fire Season Again: Is Your Family Prepared? Everyone in the Mountain Communities is invited to the Town Hall, 7 p.m. in the Condor Room at the PMC clubhouse (2524 Beechwood Way, PMC). Get updates on emergency preparedness and have some fun. Saturday, March 14

• Pine Mountain Village Merchant’s Association will hold its general meeting with a special breakfast at Mommy’s Roadhouse (16200 Mil Potrero Hwy, Pine Mountain Village). Come to enjoy breakfast at 8 a.m. (please RSVP so we have a head count). The meeting is at 9 a.m. All Pine Mountain community businesses are invited to participate. • El Tejon Unified School District invites all district students, grades K–12 to participate in Fun Filled Saturday, 8 a.m.– 12 noon at Frazier Mountain High School (700 Falcon Way, Lebec). Students will participate in enrichment activities and sports clinics. ETUSD will receive ADA funds. See the bus schedule for Saturday, March 14 and 21 here.

• ‘Down and dead’ wood is available at Mil Potrero Campground with a Los Padres National Forest wood permit, 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Purchase permit from the Mt. Pinos District Ranger’s Office (34580 Lockwood Valley Rd., Lockwood Valley, 661.245.3731). Woodcutting will also be permitted on the next two Saturdays, first come, first served.

• Michi’s Magic Bookshelf Craft Club at the Frazier Park Library (3732 Park Dr., Frazier Park),11 a.m. offers stories this month about abstract art. Children are invited to create their own abstract masterpieces. See Michi’s column in the March issue of The New Mountain Pioneer, on newsstands and available, free, around town.

• Join the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society on a tour of the St. Francis Dam site. The failure of the dam engineered in 1928 is the second-worst disaster in California’s history. The tour begins at 11 a.m. at the Saugus Train Station within Hart Park (24101 Newhall Ave., Newhall). You will travel by motor coach to the dam, then hike to the ruins. Tickets are $35 per person (RSVP 661.254.1275).

• In the Shadow of the River is the first public event for the Sierra Club’s new season. Gathering starts at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. program by Russell Orrell, adventurer and wildlife photographer (pool pavilion, Pine Mountain Clubhouse). The public is invited to this free event.

Sunday, March 15

• Naturalist and birder Megan Lundin offers a tour at Wind Wolves Preserve, 8–10 a.m., through several habitats to discover birds of our area. Participants will drive to different habitats to see more of the preserve. All ages and abilities are welcome. (19.4 miles north from FP on I-5, exit west on SR 166 and drive 14.6 miles to 16019 Maricopa Hwy–661.858.1115, www.wildlandsconservancy.org).

• What will make Fiesta Days better?
