Venturing out… What does opening up mean for businesses, for customers and for public health?

A giddy wave of normalcy wafted through the leafy air in Pine Mountain Village on Sunday, May 24. Folks itching to unshelter-in-place gathered on the patio of R&B Hideaway to dine, sip and enjoy the live music of Walt and Pam Ryba. A palpable sense of relief prevailed, for everyone.

That was certainly true for Hideaway co-owner Bob Lloyd, who had the patio all set up, but wasn’t at all sure whether people would show up. People did show up, both Saturday and Sunday.

“It was a huge relief!” he laughed. He added that people seemed truly eager to come out.

Lloyd said it was great to see customers and friends he hadn’t seen in a while. As for the recent past, during covid-19 shelter-in-place?

“It’s been horrible, it’s been terrible,” Lloyd said—“a nightmare for two months, three months!”
