A newly proposed sales tax increase will appear on the November ballots for only unincorporated residents of Kern County.

Measure K, as it is referred to by Kern County representatives, could increase sales tax in unincorporated areas of Kern County by “one-cent,” but there has been confusion over what “one-cent” actually means.

Jim Zervis, Chief Operations Officer of Kern County Administrative Offices, as well as Kern Sheriff Donny Youngblood and Kern County Fire Department Deputy Chief Dionisio Mitchell, spoke to concerned citizens and civil service workers about the proposal and answered questions in an open workshop held at the Frazier Park Recreation Building, September 21.
