You can lend a hand to make this year’s festivals the best ever

Many hands make light work—and lots of laughter, our wisest friends used to say—and still do. Around the Mountain Communities, excitement is starting to build as people pitch in to get our annual festival schedule rolling. You can help. Volunteer. Here is a little peek behind the curtain from some of the major upcoming events.

“Lilac Festival is set for May 16 and 17,” Mark Bailey wrote last week, “Conditions permitting, I’ve got the helicopter rides back and laser tag for the bigger kids in addition to the kiddie area [for the smaller children].
“I’m trying to get the acrobatic skydivers back to kick off the parade in style. We plan to have a nice slate of entertainment lined up for all ages,” Bailey added.

He said he sees things “shaping up very nicely for a true family festival.”

Pam Plouffe is reminding everyone to go to www.PmcLilacFestival.com to reserve their booths (modestly priced for local artisans and nonprofits). Booth reservations are due by May 1.

One of the great joys of living in the Mountain Communities is putting together an entry for our local parades, then waving to all your neighbors on the big day. Parade applications are also available on the website and should all be submitted before May 10.

“As always, we’re on a somewhat limited budget… unless someone wants to step up to sponsor the Lilac Festival,” Bailey said, with a virtual Facebook wink.

Mountain Memories Association (MMA)

produces the granddaddy community event, Fiesta Days, which occurs in early August. This year it appears MMA will also take on producing the Holiday Faire and Festival of Lights Parade on the first weekend of December.

MMA invites everyone to come join in the planning meeting this Sunday, April 12. Get involved to make Fiesta Days its best ever this summer.

Meet at Caveman Cavey’s Pizza at 5 p.m. (3620 Mt. Pinos Way, Frazier Park). All are invited to come to participate in the planning for Fiesta Days.

Relay for Life of the Mountain Communities

raises funds to help local neighbors fight cancer. Come learn more at the Chamber Mixer next Wednesday, April 15 (5:30-7:30 p.m.) at California Bank & Trust. Check the calendar on page 13, April 15 for details.
